Abstract

Building national character is an effort to form and develop positive values, attitudes, and behavior in individuals in a country. This is very important in building a quality society, having morality, integrity, and concern for others. Building national character helps maintain and strengthen the identity of a country . The goal is to form national character through civic education (PKn). The goals are (1) To form individuals who have quality and responsible participatory abilities in political and community life, both at the local, national, regional, and global levels; (2) To make good citizens and able to maintain the unity and integration of the nation, with the aim of realizing a strong, prosperous, and democratic Indonesia; (3) To produce students who think comprehensively, analytically, critically, and act democratically; (4) To develop a democratic culture, including freedom, equality, independence, tolerance, decision-making abilities, and the ability to participate in political and community activities; (5) To shape students to become good and responsible citizens through the instilling of moral values and social skills, so that they are able to understand and solve current problems in citizenship, such as tolerance, respecting differences of opinion, being empathetic, respecting plurality, having awareness of law and social order, respecting human rights, developing democracy in various aspects of life, and respecting local wisdom. The materials and methods used in this research are based on the literature review conducted. The purpose of this literature review is to gain a comprehensive understanding of the role of civic education in developing national character. Based on the research, the suggestion that can be given is that there needs to be involvement of all parties in paying attention to and participating in building the character of students as the next generation of the future of the Indonesian nation.
