The development of digital technology and social media has brought significant changes to people's lifestyles, especially among adolescents. One psychological phenomenon that arises from social media use is the Fear of Missing Out (FOMO), a feeling of being left behind in information, experiences, or social activities that others are engaging in. This phenomenon is increasing along with the high intensity of social media use such as Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and X among adolescents. This study aims to examine the FOMO phenomenon in social media and its impact on adolescents' lives through a literature review method. Research data was obtained from various scientific journals, books, academic articles, and previous research relevant to the research topic. The results of the study indicate that FOMO is influenced by various factors such as excessive social media use, the need for social recognition, peer pressure, and the habit of comparing oneself to others. The FOMO phenomenon impacts adolescents' mental health, academic achievement, social interaction patterns, and lifestyle. Therefore, self-awareness, control of social media use, and support from family and educational environments are needed so that adolescents can use social media healthily and wisely.
