Challenge Actualization of Citizenship Values in the Present: Face Polarization Digital And Contemporary Social Dynamics

Abstract

The currents of globalization and the rapid penetration of digital technology have blurred the conventional boundaries of the nation-state, triggering the emergence of the concept of global citizenship. This phenomenon poses new challenges to traditional narratives of nationalism and raises the risk of commodifying civic identity in cyberspace. This article aims to conduct an in-depth reconstruction of the citizenship paradigm in the digital era by analyzing how individuals can balance domestic responsibilities (nationalism) with cross-border moral awareness (cosmopolitanism). Using comprehensive literature review methods and descriptive-qualitative analysis, this research examines the theoretical shift from the Westphalian era to the post-Westphalian digital era. The results found that digital citizenship does not automatically erode local sovereignty. Instead, through the integration of Pancasila values ​​as a multidimensional ethical anchor and the strengthening of a citizenship-based digital literacy curriculum (civic digital literacy), citizens can adopt a global identity to champion universal humanitarian issues without losing their cultural roots, political commitment, and full loyalty to their homeland's sovereignty.
