Abstract

Ideal citizens with democratic and responsible character are needed as social capital for national character development. The democratic character of citizens requires intellectual capital that is essential to forming responsible citizens, namely those who have knowledge of the principles and practices of democracy and the cognitive capacity to apply them to public affairs. Civics Education (PKn) in schools is seen as a primary vehicle for the formation of democratic character through the development of components of civic knowledge, cognitive skills, participation skills, and character virtues. This study aims to describe the role of PKn in forming the character of democratic and responsible citizens through a literature review. The results of the study indicate that PKn is consistently designed to achieve the national education goals of enlightening the nation's life and forming citizens with character. Pancasila.
