THE ROLE OF PANCASILA AND CITIZENSHIP EDUCATION TEACHERS IN CHARACTER FORMATION OF STUDENTS IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of Civic Education (Pancasila and Citizenship Education/PPKn) teachers in shaping students' character in elementary schools. PPKn holds a strategic position in instilling the values of Pancasila, moral principles, social norms, and citizenship attitudes reflected in students' daily behavior. In the midst of rapid social change, strengthening character education has become increasingly essential to develop a generation that is ethical, disciplined, responsible, and respectful of diversity. This research employs a qualitative approach through document analysis and relevant literature review related to the implementation of PPKn learning in elementary schools. The findings indicate that PPKn teachers play significant roles as role models, mentors, motivators, facilitators, and evaluators in the character-building process. The implementation of character values is carried out through habituation of polite behavior, time discipline, compliance with school regulations, and continuous guidance and counseling. Furthermore, collaboration between schools and parents reinforces the internalization of character values among students. Therefore, the role of PPKn teachers extends beyond cognitive development to include affective and psychomotor aspects in order to foster students with strong Pancasila-based character.
