Abstract

The rapid development of science and technology marks the entry of globalization into a country. Globalization has significant positive and negative impacts. This globalization has affected the westernized way of life of society and weakened the values and nationalism of the Indonesian people. Education is an effective way to cultivate good character in the younger generation. The crisis of the character of the Indonesian nation threatens the value of the dignity and character of the Indonesian nation. The problem of the character of the Indonesian nation needs to be addressed, especially in this era of globalization. Forming the nation's character by learning civics education is an obligation, because education not only makes the nation smart and intelligent, but also makes the nation have noble character, which the nation and state can benefit from. Citizenship Education (Civics) is one of the disciplines aimed at forming the character of a nation and requires civics learning from elementary school, high school to university. It aims to shape the character of the Indonesian nation. Pancasila values are formed based on the culture that belongs to the Indonesian nation, therefore the character that must be attached to every Indonesian nation is the character in everyday life based on Pancasila values. Therefore the learning and application of Civics starts from elementary school students. In addition, character education has other functions, namely developing potential, habits and behavior, developing leadership and responsibility, as well as developing competence and the school environment. The function of civic education includes developing participatory skills to make Indonesian citizens active, critical, intelligent and democratic, as well as building a civilized democratic culture
