THE ROLE OF CIVIC EDUCATION IN FORMING A PERSON WITH CHARACTER IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CHILDREN

The current character crisis increasingly threatens the value of the character of the Indonesian nation so that Indonesia needs a solution to the decline in the value of the nation's character, especially in this digitalization era. This writing is intended to see and describe the role of Civic Education to carry out personal formation with character at the elementary school level. Civic education is a field where learning activities instill various ethical values that are able to familiarize students with having good character and personality in students in elementary schools. The character and morals of students can be formed better with the existence of citizenship education. Because civic education studies how students are ethical, knowledgeable about the motherland, love the motherland, have responsibilities, respect each other, obey God as contained in Pancasila and there is this learning, students can also learn how to respect others despite various differences. The research method applies a qualitative study approach witha descriptive approach whose basis for discussion is obtained through literature studies from various references, such as books and journals that are appropriate for this research discussion. This research will describe the role of Civics subjects in elementary schools as an effort to instill character values. The results of this study illustrate that Civic Education has an urgency to play a role in shaping the character of students to become better individuals. Civic education will have major implications for the character development of students. Through this learning, students are also expected to learn to become better individuals and have responsibilities as citizens.
