THE ROLE OF CHARACTER EDUCATION IN EFFORTS TO BUILD RESPECT

Abstract

Character education is a process of applying moral and religious values in the world of education to students through science, the application of these values both to oneself, family, fellow friends, to educators and the surrounding environment and God Almighty. The character of honor is important to see and know the value in ourselves and in others. The decline in the character of respect is a problem that is currently happening in elementary schools. If this condition is left unchecked, it can lead to various immoral behaviors. In this regard, the purpose of this study is to determine the role of character education in building respect for students. The research method used was a literature study using a qualitative approach. The results showed that character education plays an important role in efforts to build respect for students because without the character of a student they do not have respect for anyone. respect is the basic value that must be taught in school. Efforts that can be made to instill the value of honor are carried out through education in the family, integration into the teaching and learning process and multicultural education. Several other values such as the values of honesty, justice, tolerance, wisdom, self-discipline, mutual help, caring for others, cooperation , courage , and a democratic attitude is a form of respect or as a supporting medium for being respectful. Character education leads to the formation of students who have harmony and balance between academic knowledge, good attitudes/behavior and skills towards the era of the industrial revolution 4.0 and the era of Society 5.0. Hopefully by always strengthening character education will produce students who not only have good academic knowledge but also have quality character.
