Abstract

Character education is a mandatory thing, because it is considered able to make students become intelligent, have ethics and manners so that students are meaningful as members of society both for themselves and society in general and at large. Education of national character that is moral and virtuous is expressed in the subjects of civic education carried out at each school level. But in fact, character education in Indonesia is considered to fail in creating people with character and morality as in its mission. Moral and virtuous character education is poured in civic education (Civics) subjects carried out at each school level. is a subject that focuses on the formation of citizens who understand and are able to carry out their rights and obligations to become intelligent, skilled, and characterful Indonesian citizens mandated by Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution. the. In this scientific article, data collection is carried out by the literature study method. Based on the results and discussion, it can be understood that Civics' efforts in shaping the character of students are to basis or foundation for the nation's generation in the formation of good character at the school level starting from elementary school. Through Civic Education students are expected to be able to be religious, honest, tolerant and other positive attitudes. By teaching civic education to children, it is hoped that children who are descendants of Civic Education is also the nation can develop good morals and morals based on their awareness and desires and change bad morals. to being religious, getting used to being honest, intelligent, tough, democratic and caring. While the main character values aim to form students who are nationalist, follow social rules, respect diversity, realize their rights and obligations and others, are responsible, think logically, critically, creatively, innovatively and accustom students independently
