IMPLEMENTATION OF CIVIC EDUCATION IN REALIZING NATIONAL IDENTITY

Abstract

National Identity is the identity of a nation. Not only is it an identity, but also National Identity is the basis for awareness of how important it is to have an attitude of filial piety to the nation and state. In this modern era, National Identity has become an important thing to be instilled in the next generation of the nation. The fact that the next generation is now more inclined to foreign cultures is undeniable. Technological advances eliminate existing boundaries so that influence and information from outside can enter very easily without obstacles. Young people are then easily affected. Apart from the lack of understanding about National Identity, the assumption that outside culture is cooler is a new challenge in fostering awareness of National Identity to the younger generation. Then in cultivating National Identity, one lesson is needed for the younger generation. Many methods can be used to give the younger generation an extra understanding related to National Identity. One of them is civic education. The existence of citizenship education is expected to be a way to grow identity and introduce National Identity in every person, especially young people as the next generation of the nation. So that young people have good knowledge, noble ethics, and skills to serve and work for the nation and state. So for the explanation above, the purpose of writing this journal is to explore and explain how the implementation of civic education in shaping and building National Identity, especially to the younger generation as the successor of this nation. Later the conclusion of writing this journal is to explain what are the implementations of civic education in instilling the spirit of national identity and awareness of National Identity to young people.
